The small volcanic island of Saba has no large international hotel or resort companies. Instead, a number of small, charming hotels, lodges, and guesthouses accommodate a limited number of vacationers. One of the many appeals of staying in secluded Saba is the private and tranquil setting. Saba's small hotels and lodges are reflective of this desire for peace and quiet.
The largest hotels and resorts on the island only have about 15 rooms each. Many of the rooms have their own private ocean or garden views, complete with private balconies and hammocks. Others are also equipped with a kitchen and jacuzzi. Many of the hotels will have some sort of meal plan or dining option, although food on the island is never far away. Travelers can also find pools, fitness centers, and a tennis court at select locations throughout the island.
A number of the island's accommodations are eco-oriented establishments which are small cottages rather than traditional hotel rooms. Nestled among foliage with captivating views of the surrounding landscape, these small cottages offer travelers additional privacy. Many of the standard hotels also have adjoining cottages and villas to rent out to their guests. These intimate accommodations keeps guests from having to bump elbows with large crowds of vacationers and provides the perfect spot for a romantic getaway.
The majority of hotels and resorts on the island are located in Windwardside, close to restaurants and other traveler needs. Accommodations in other areas of the island provide additional seclusion, and the small size of Saba ensures that travelers are never far away from shopping in Windwardside or diving in Fort Bay.
Many of the hotels and cottages on the island will quote their prices per night per room, rather than per night per person, so travelers should clarify whether the quoted price is based on the number of travelers. During the high season, double occupancy room rates start from $83(USD) to $135(USD) and move upward from there. Cottages can run from $85(USD) to $155(USD). Rooms at some of the island's nicer resorts and hotels can start at $200(USD) and move up to $400(USD) and even $850(USD), depending on the accommodations. Taxes at hotels will amount to about 8 percent.
Many travelers spend their days in Saba trekking through the island's gorgeous natural scenery or diving in the diverse waters of the Saba Marine Park. Saba's assortment of quiet hotels and secluded cottages give travelers the perfect place to relax—whether it's after a day of adventure, or just a romantic afternoon of strolling by the breathtaking greenery.
